Rose Parade 2009

Amelia, Christian and I went to the Rose Parade on New Years Day in 2009 - two years ago tomorrow. We drove up to Pasadena around 4 am to stake out our spot and found that most of the street was already full. We found a spot near the end of the parade and managed to get pretty close to the curb.

It was great to see the parade, but it will probably turn out to be a once-in-a-lifetime event for us! We tried to sleep while we were waiting for the parade, but it was a bit cold and uncomfortable on the median in the road. Maybe if we get a camper we could try to have the full experience and stake out a spot closer to the beginning of the parade!

Henrie's Card

Ha ha. Henrie likes to hang out in our front porch sometimes but he loves the view of the street so he reaches his long neck thru the drain hole. Its always hilarious.

We may have the weirdest dog but we love him.

Tombstone

Yesterday we took a trip to Tombstone with Amelia's mom and grandma.  It's only accessible by donkey.


We saw the shootout at the OK Corral and got a chance to take a photo with the survivors (the Earps).

Tombstone is about 25 minutes from Sierra Vista, and basically out in them middle of nowhere.  It was booming in the 1870s and 1880s as a mining town, and is now an out-of-the-way tourist attraction.

It will forever be known as "The town too tough to die".

More Thanksgiving

I have hosted several Thanksgiving dinners over the past few years, but this was the first one where Amelia and I were co-hosts!  The food turned out great and we're still enjoying leftover turkey!

Happy Thanksgiving!

We celebrated Thanksgiving at our house this year - our first Thanksgiving as a married couple!  Amelia's mom and grandma came to visit and spend the weekend with us, and we had a great day making all of the food, watching the parade, and playing the Wii!

Save the Dolphins

The wind blew the leaves on our patio into a dolphin shape. Amelia loves dolphins, and this is probably the closest we will come to seeing a dolphin in Sierra Vista.

Field trip to the Mesa Temple!

Yesterday we got to take a field trip down to the Mesa Temple with the branch here on post! We left at 6 am on an Army bus and made the 3 hour journey up!

It was a great day and we enjoyed meeting everyone in the group!

My favorite was the group picture in front of the temple! Jared was kind of jealous he didn't think of wearing his ACU's!

And no field trip to the Mesa Temple is complete without a trip to In and Out!

What a delicious end to a perfect day!

Our first Halloween here in Sierra Vista was pretty good! I think this was the first Halloween I didn't dress up which was disappointing, but I know there is many more Halloweens to come!

Of course we celebrated with a lot of treats!

And just because we didn't have costumes didn't mean that Henrie couldn't have one! :)

I even got to use my NEW sewing machine to make alterations on his tiny outfit!

We also got to decorate and was a hit at our ward's trunk or treat party. Henrie was the main attraction!

Life in Arizona

I am so glad Jared stole the blog for a day to give everyone some much needed posts, but once I saw things go a little random I decided to steal it back. ;)

Life in Arizona has been great and interesting at the same time! Being together has been wonderful and being able to catch up on those 5 months we missed out on!

We have a sweet little house on post with 3 bedrooms and a backyard! Its been so nice after leaving in apartments and condos for the past few years!

And I finally got the kitchen space I needed!

The interesting parts is that being here has brought us a lot closer to nature. When have you found one of these on the door of your home?

And our little town of Sierra Vista lies on one long street. The biggest store at our mall is the boot barn! If there is one of us who have adapted to the small town life it's Henrie with his fancy western accessories.

We are excited to get to know the town better and enjoy the life Arizona has to offer!
