Enjoying our last few months in Arizona

Well our time in Arizona is winding down. Jared and I have both been busy in our classes and enjoying Arizona.

Jared is about 5 weeks into class and graduates early July. After that we will probably be packing up and getting ready to move to our next exciting Army destination! Who knows where that will be?! But I am sure in the months to come we will be able to make a exciting announcement of where!

I have been in a medical assistant program since January and our class time has ended. I start a full time externship in an internal medicine office tomorrow! And I will also be keeping busy studying for my national certification exam I will take in early May. It will be around 6 hours and over 400 questions so my work is cut out for me! I have loved every minute of learning and have meet some good friends in my class! I will be sad to see it all end!

In these past few months I have really let Arizona grow on me! We have been able to enjoy the nice sunny weather and scenery! We have enjoyed some fun hiking trails. Henrie loves to go with us and is so good at following the trails!

There is a lot I'll miss about our home for the past few months! But we are excited about all the places we could go! Until then we will enjoy the sunshine, friends, and long hikes together.

A year ago!

It's been a year to the day since our New York City trip. It's probably time to go back!

Henrie's First Snow

This is actually our second snowstorm this winter here in Arizona, but the first time it has stuck to the ground.

Visitors from Utah!

Last weekend Amelia and I got to go on "vacation" with my parents! They flew down from Utah for a few days, and we were able to do all of the big tourist attractions in what may soon become Baja Arizona, our 51st state.

We went to Tombstone and saw the gunfight at the OK Corral, as well as the Historama.



The gunfight is more of a local dramatic production of their interpretation of the events of the day of the shooting as told through poetry by Doc Holliday. When it was over, Amelia leaned over and said:

Ha ha ha, wasn't that just magnificent? I was worried it was getting a
little dodgy in the middle part, but then that finale... Wow!

I think my mom's favorite part was knowing that Kurt Russell may have been to Tombstone while filming the movie "Tombstone".

We also went up to Tucson for the day and the parents got the Grand Circle Tour of Fort Huachuca. Good times in Arizona!

Bisbee Mine Tour

For our one year anniversary, Amelia and I had a "local's weekend" and spent a day in Tucson and a day in Bisbee.  While in Tucson, Amelia won the Wicked lottery and we were able to see the show from the front row!  It was great!

The next day we went to Bisbee, an old mine town about 30 minutes from Fort Huachuca.  We took the Queen Mine tour and walked around the city to see the old shops and buildings.  The mine tour was pretty cool - you get to wear a helmet and hat, and ride a train on the old mine car track into the mine, and then they let you walk around in a few rooms.  Good times in Bisbee!

Rose Parade 2009

Amelia, Christian and I went to the Rose Parade on New Years Day in 2009 - two years ago tomorrow. We drove up to Pasadena around 4 am to stake out our spot and found that most of the street was already full. We found a spot near the end of the parade and managed to get pretty close to the curb.

It was great to see the parade, but it will probably turn out to be a once-in-a-lifetime event for us! We tried to sleep while we were waiting for the parade, but it was a bit cold and uncomfortable on the median in the road. Maybe if we get a camper we could try to have the full experience and stake out a spot closer to the beginning of the parade!
